ABOUT BEGHA
Begha (or Birah) is a quiet beach resort located between East London and Port Alfred and is characterised by a quiet, relaxed environment with miles of wide, beautiful beaches in either direction of the Begha River Mouth. Begha is the ideal location for truly relaxing family holiday away from of mainstream holiday destinations.
With the closest towns being Kleinemonde (35km), Port Alfred (54 km) and East London (85km), you can really hide away from the hustle and bustle of busy everyday life.
Begha is also situated about 100 km from Grahamstown, making it an ideal destination during school holidays for the families of learners of the nearby private schools – allowing them to reconnect and recharge in a chilled environment before another busy school term.
The Begha river mouth is ideal for swimming, water sports and fishing. The beautiful dunes are a playground to young and old. The Begha coastline is a fisherman’s haven and offers rock and surf anglers the opportunity to catch a variety of species, including blue fish, red roman and cob.

THINGS TO DO IN BEGHA
Water sports
The Begha river offers a 7 km stretch of river ideal for all kinds of water sports, including canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and motorized water sport such as skiing and tubing, or you can just enjoy a sunset cruise down the river.
The Eastern Cape certainly has its fair share of fantastic surfing spots.
Hiking, Running & Biking
The hard packed sand on the long stretches of uninterrupted beaches is ideal for running, walking or biking. Begha and its surrounding areas are a playground for trail running and mountain biking. The Mpekweni Resort, a mere 10 km away, offers extensive trails in a secure environment ideal for trail runners and mountain bikers alike.
Fishing
You can fish in the river, from the shoreline or deep sea. The beach launch site for deep sea fishing is about a 1km beach drive from the main parking area and ideally requires the use of a 4 x 4 vehicle.
You can make the necessary arrangements with the launch site officer upon your arrival in Begha, should you want to launch your boat through the surf.
Dune Boarding
Begha boasts some amazing sand dunes that change the landscape almost every day. It is a playground for young and old and ideal for dune boarding.
Relaxing
Take a walk as a family. Being outside in nature can help everyone relax. Explain to your kids that relaxing not only feels good, it can also help make us healthier.
Golfing
The Fish River Resort golf course is a mere 20 minute drive away, whereas Port Alfred, East London and Grahamstown host a number of golf courses, if you are up for a short drive.
